[EDIT 25-MAY-13: I am renaming this cosplay to Nightingale (retexture) due to the excessive amount of details I changed and a big ode to modding!]
I'm going to start making a journal entry for each cosplay so I don't have to pour alllll my comments, notes, thoughts, etc into every description.
Let's start with current project... Nightingale armor from Elder Scroll V: Skyrim. MY DREAM COSPLAY. Took me a couple of years to get the courage to actually start on this. I'm glad I did! I've learned a lot through this process and it will be premiering at A-Kon 24 with one of my BFF as a Brotherhood Assassin and my male BFF as a Whiterun guard. I love video game cosplay. Glad to represent this game.
So this project is inspired by the Nightingale
retexture mods available for PC Skyrim. The actual armor in game is pretty but it's really vague... I think the retexturing does make it look better especially when you're running Skyrim with graphics on full blast.
There's a lot of GOOD Nightingale cosplays out there but I'm doing a little spin on mine. This is why I refer to it as "HD" since it's not going to be entirely accurate as it is in game. Of course, the in-game vanilla texture is pretty vague anyway so it does leave a lot of room for creative liberty. I just took it a littttttle step further.
This very concept probably makes people like my other BFF
pixelcaster cringe since she's such a purist, but sometimes I think not being 100% accurate is okay. Before I get into that, let me explain what the Nightingale is.
For those who are not familiar with the game... Nightingales are pretty much the master thieves of Skyrim. The armor is provided by the goddess of luck and whom the thieves worship, Nocturnal. Nightingales are pretty much Nocturnal's agents.
So Nightingales are pretty much your baddest thieves who are blessed by a goddess. That to me seems like the armor should be especially elegant and light (you're sneaking around a lot, don't need too much ARMOR to weigh you down). with that in mind, I'm creating this cosplay with a LOT of attention to detail and with the lightest material.
Regardless, this project is one hell of a beast. Especially since I'm trying to stay true to the much of the design but make my own tweaks without it straying away from the Nightingale "look."
However as someone who has always played the rogue or thief class in video games all my life, I am extremely excited about this.
